ABUJA—The battle for ascendancy among the political opposition got messier, Thursday, after the brains behind the controversial African Peoples Congress, APC, emerged to unfold their logo, constitution and emblem.

The First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, Sunday spoke out for the first time on the illness she suffered from last year which necessitated her evacuation to a German hospital, where she spent three months undergoing treatment.

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday directed security agencies to rescue Prof. Kamene Okonjo, the kidnapped octogenarian mother of Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Dr. Jonathan has returned to Abuja after the funeral of his younger brother, Meni, in Bayelsa State.

A massive manhunt for the kidnappers, who were yet to contact the family as at 7.30pm last night, has begun. In the battle to rescue Mrs Okonjo are the police, the State Security Service (SSS) and the Intelligence units of the Armed Forces.

ABUJA—DIRECTOR General of the Department of State Security, Ekpenyong Ita, yesterday, assured that the service and other security agencies are working with other stakeholders including the media towards ensuring that the activities of the Boko Haram sect are brought under total control for peace to  reign in the country.
